Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh is home to the Bhil tribe also referred to as the ‘brave bowmen of India’. The land piece between the flow of rivers the Mahi in the north and the Narmada in the south embodies the cultural center of this tribe; Jhabua.The region mainly consists of 3 tribes Bhil, Bhilala, and Pateliya; Bhils are the predominantly populous tribe.

 The region still has forests of katthiwada & Jhinjhani (Sorwa) and patches of forests throughout. The region witnesses a lush green carpet.  A constant flow of waterfalls and a number of water bodies make it surreal. The harmonious relationship of the tribal with nature is reflected in their calm and joyful behavior.There are a lot of historical places and temples in the vicinity of 100 kilometers from district headquarters.

Bhabara - Bhabara (Renamed as Azad Nagar) is the birthplace of great freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad and is 44 km from Jhabua city.

Deojhiri - As the name of the village denotes there is an ancient temple and (Jhiri) or a perennial spring. The spring has been built up into a Kund.

Mandu -Mandu is an ancient fortified city. It’s surrounded by stone walls dotted with Darwaza (gateways). It’s also known for its Afghan architectural heritage.

Art & Craft

Their homes, hangings on the walls, bamboo handicrafts, traditional attire, silver and bead jewelry, dolls, and other items that have for long decorated the living rooms all over the country. The physique of bhil men along with ‘Teer-Kamthi’ has for ages adorned. ‘Pithora’ wall paintings in the Alirajpur region is a spectacular ancient art form.

Dance and music

The Bhili dance is performed on flute and ‘maandal’ (a drum). They form concentric circles while dancing and in perfect sync with each other. Their movement is aesthetic and rhythmic and a group of people playing the flute and mandala in the center.
