Durgiana Temple, Amritsar

The Durgiana Temple and Sitla Mandir, is a premier temple situated in the city of Amritsar. Though a Hindu temple, its architecture is similar to the Golden Temple. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, it originally dates back to the 16th century but was rebuilt in the early 20th century. The exquisite silver doors of the sanctum are embossed with incarnations of Hindu deities. The best time to visit is early morning or late evening when the aarti or singing of devotional songs creates a soothing atmosphere. The place where the temple stands is associated with the epic Ramayana, and it is believed that Sita performed puja at this very spot.
