Kalaram Temple

Situated in the “Pachvati†region of Nashik is the famous old Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Rama. It is one of the important Hindu shrine in the city visited by thousands of devotees everyday. The sanctum sanctorum also houses the statues of goddess Sita and Lakshman. Built in 1792, the temple was funded by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar Peshwa. The temple has been constructed with black stones and has four entrance doors, one each facing East, West, South and North. Surrounding the building of Kalaram Mandir is a walled enclosure, which comprises of 96 pillars. The enclosure is entered from the eastern side, through an arched portal. The temple is around 70 feet high and the summit is made up of 32 tonne of gold.

Situated near the sanctum sanctorum is Sita gupha (cave) where goddess Sita is believed to have resided during her exile. Festivals of Ramnavami, Dussehra and Chaitra Padwa (Hindu new year day) are celebrated with much pomp and show at the temple.
