Manas National Park

Located in the Himalayan foothills in western Assam, Manas National Park is a spectacular jungle and a very unique one. The National park also wears many hats for being a wildlife sanctuary, national park, biosphere hot spot, a Natural World Heritage Site, a Project Tiger and Project Elephant reserve. The park serves as the international corridor for elephant migration between Indian and Bhutan. Spread over an area of 500 sq. kms, the park has extensive grasslands and is famous for its unique scenic beauty. The park harbours more than 20 endangered species.

Considered to be one of the world’s rarest species, the Golden Langur was first spotted in Manas in the mid-20th century. Other mammals commonly found here are Rhino, Elephant, Tiger, Pygmy hog, Hispid hare, Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, Leopard, Golden Cat, Clouded leopard, Fishing cat, Leopard cat, Jungle Cat, the Large Indian civet, the Small Indian civet, Common palm civet, Himalaya palm civet, Binturong, Common mongoose, Small Indian mongoose, Himalayan black bear, Sloth bear, Gaur, Water buffalo, Sambar, Hog deer, Barking deer, Swamp deer, Wild pigs etc.

Safari Activities & Timings in Manas National Park

The best time to explore the park is from October to April. Safari activities are available here where one can enjoy the view of wildlife. Safari activities that are available here include:

Elephant Safari– It is available at Bansbari range to view & explore flora and fauna of the forest.

Jeep Safari-A perfect way to explore the park in a 4-wheel (Jeep) drive vehicle as one can view tigers, leopard and other animals by being safe on the other side. Jeep Safaris are permitted from sunrise to sunset for sightseeing inside the park.

Rafting – For adventure lovers, river rafting from Mathanguri on river Manas for almost 2 ½  hours can be availed where one can spot birds as well as animals.
