Yumthang Valley

Yumthang Valley or Sikkim Valley of Flower sanctuary at the North district of Sikkim is situated at an elevation of 11,800 feet surrounded by snow-clad mountains, rhododendrons, hot-springs, yaks and grazing pastures on rolling and the vibrant local communities.
Yumthang is a home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which has over twenty-four species of the rhododendron, the state flower. The flowering season is from late February and to mid June, when countless flowers bloom to carpet the valley in multicolored hues of rainbow. A tributary of the river Teestaflows past the valley and the town of Lachung, the nearest inhabited centre.
The beauty of Yumthang valley is compared it to the beauty of the Swiss alps by some travellers who have visited this valley. It also offers treks to the Green Lake and Phunithoka to the adventure seekers.
The best time to visit Yumthang valley is in the month of April till mid-June and in the month of October. It is closed between December and March due to heavy snowfall.
