Raja Rai Singh (1571-1611 A.D) sixth ruler of Bikaner built this impregnable unconquered Fort. It contains many palaces, pavilions and temples made of red sandstone and marble with kiosks and balconies. It is surrounded by a moat. Facing east is the main entrence known as ‘Karan Pol’. Next to it is the sun gate or “Suraj Polâ€. Har Mandir- a majestic chapel where Gods and Goddesses were worshiped by the royal family. Moon Palace or ‘Chandra Mahalâ€has paintings on its lime plastered walls and the Flower Palace or “Pool Mahalâ€is done up with inset mirror work. It also houses a museum which boasts of a rich collection of rare items several centuries old. Some other places of interest inside the fort are Anup Mahal, Ganga Niwas, Rang Mahal, Darbal Hall, Gaj Mandir, Sheesh Mahal and Karan Mahal.
