Konda Reddy Burz, also known as Kurnool Fort, is a bastion that establishes the historical importance of Kurnool town in Andhra Pradesh. The rulers of the renowned Vijayanagar Empire built a strategic watch tower here.
Konda Reddy Burz is a unique monument due to its singular feature of an underground tunnel which connects the fort to Gadwal, a place 52 km away. The most remarkable feature of this tunnel is that it passes under the River Tungabhadra, a feat unimaginable during the medieval times. Konda Reddy Burz is a proof of the architectural acumen and astute military strategies characteristic of the medieval rulers of India.
