Sandwiched between the Singalila National Park in the south and Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve in the north, this small 104-sq-km sanctuary is at an altitude of 10,000 ft and supports a wide variety of bio-diversity. But the main attractions of the sanctuary are the rhododendrons which bloom in April-May coloring the Sanctuary in wild abandon. There are three points of entry-Hilley, Dentam and Soreng. Visitors generally prefer Hilley since it is approachable by road.Â
Being a border state and for some other reasons special permission is to be taken for Indian (to some areas of Sikkim). Foreign tourists visiting Sikkim needs to have an Indian Visa. In addition, they need a special Inner Line Permit.
